About CRANKYfest 2005
Cranky art uses ancient scroll technology, with a frame, to tell stories in ways that regular performance can’t do. Bread and Puppet first utilized a “cranky” - so called - by Peter Schumann around 1967. Soon after it’s invention, the San Francisco Mime Troupe and other groups began to perform with crankies.
Feeling that this obscure art form needs more attention, we present the first ever CRANKYfest. Come see how artists have taken the cranky idea and worked it into their own theatrical pieces.
There may also be a workshop where you can make your own shoebox cranky, complete with moving pictures to take home and enjoy.
About the Producers
CounterPULSE provides support and low cost resources for emerging artists, serving as an incubator space to create socially relevant, diverse, community-based art in San Francisco. CounterPULSE works towards a world that celebrates a diversity of race, class, ability, gender identity & sexual orientation. No one will be turned away for lack of money for any event held at CounterPULSE.
HappyFt Travels, a world of creativity, seeks to spread the freedoms of creative resistance and full enjoyment. Originally concepted as an underground travel agency, this Web site is now an underground hub of creative content, radical thought, and personal perspective. Linking different art forms together on one neat blog, the HappyFt community opens its digital arms to people that hope to find a personal creative spark.
