I’m on the road and out in the country with Jonathan and a group of people. While we look for a place to stay for the night, Jonathan thinks he hears someone screaming in the woods. One of our passengers suggests he go check it out, so David S. and I tag along for the ride. We take a small country road through the woods and come out at a cluster of homes. We realize that we’ve just driven into an army base. Jonathan gets curious about one house and we walk inside to investigate. I get separated from them but find nothing weird going on. Outside, I find Jonathan taking photos of David in front of a fallout shelter sign. David is naked and painted orange! We all get a good laugh over this until the police show up. Jonathan and David flee and hide while I blend in with the curious onlookers. I decide to get in Jonathan’s car (a borrowed junker) to head down the road a bit. I visualize them jumping in for a getaway. I have problems with the manual transmission so just end up at the house next door. I stick around and befriend the elderly woman who lives in the first house. She and the head cop are good people, but a younger cop is antsy for an arrest. I walk through the second house and pass young girls. Jonathan and David reveal themselves to me, so I try to figure out a way to get them out of the house. On the back porch, the girls get their mom to talk to the police. I try to prepare the car for a getaway again and do better with the gears. The elderly woman tells me to leave it at the edge of the drive and then goes into her neighbor’s house. She comes back a bit later and tells me to drive around. “Can you tell where I hid them?” she asks me. Suddenly, Jonathan and David appear from small bundles of towels on the lawn. They hop in the car and we take off. We pass the elderly woman’s house and see several people walking to it. They’re blue and green with glittery clothes. We get a laugh and drive back into the woods.

My sister decides to visit and sleep at my place while our mother is also visiting. My sister can’t stay still in our shared bed, so she gets up and walks away. I then wake up, go for a walk, and get hit by a huge tsunami. I survive the wave and then scramble into the woods. As I walk through the muck, I keep thinking “stay in one place. They’ll send search parties out.”

I walk back to my barracks and my superior officer tells me that I need to clean my area. At my area, I see the mess and know that my sister made it. Other bunk mates are sweeping with their brooms. I do the same.

A flood begins and I’m on a conference call with my mother and someone else. I sit in my grandmother’s old blue Ford Fairlane while we try to figure out how to coordinate a meeting and possible evacuation. I go to a grocery store, meet a friend, and put food into his bike bag. I walk away to the book section, open one, and see a photo of Eric Doyle riding a tiny bike through a supermarket. I then see Eric near check out with a normal bike and food. I notice a lot of bikers and bike bags in the supermarket. I find my bike leaning on a rack of junk food. Back in the Fairlane, I have the urge to leave. I turn the ignition over a few times and start the car. I call Mom. Without ringing, Mom answers with an “oh, hi.”

My dad tries to drive a van down a narrow alley that goes through a cemetery. I sit in the passenger seat, a bit stressed at the tight fit, and we make it through one stone-walled entrance. We make a turn, stopping at a dead end where a black-clad woman stands over a grave. I get out of the van to help Dad navigate the van out of the old cemetery.

3/11 DREAM

I give a talk on scorpions in a lecture hall. The presentation is based upon a paper I have written, which I have, but I am unprepared for the moment. I show a live scorpion to the audience and place it on the table with the paper, and it sits there as I stumble through my points. To cover myself, I keep referring to a video on scorpions, which said that “scorpions are more evolved than humans.” “Don’t you mean clams?” someone in the audience asks. “Clams have a large foot that they walk with,” I hastily reply.

2/8/2008 AM dream

As I show up to a building by the ocean, I look through a window into a room, and notice a young woman taking her clothes off. I go to the WC, come out, and, back in clothes, she gives me an embarrassed look. “I took antidepressants while you were away,” she tells me, “and they make me jittery.” “Nudity doesn’t bother me,” I reply, “except while eating at the table.” I then walk to the ocean-side where a party is happening.

While there, the ocean current sweeps a flooded viking ship towards us a several times. I take out my phone and try to make a video of the ship. “You should pull the ship out!” someone yells at me. I laugh at the thought.

2/1/2008 AM Dream #2

A kingdom exists in a universe where a hero has been sent to make huge changes. This hero, with golden blond hair, flies to the kingdom with three or four huge golden bands spinning around him. He can wield the bands, create new ones, manipulate them to protect himself and project them as weapons.

When he fist comes to the kingdom, he assumes high status in the government there, all the while setting things up for the change that he needs to make. He then uses his powers, and the bands, to complete his deed. He goes to a safe place, a building that looks like a crypt, to hide as he sees the success of his actions. But a man, a servant or priest, rushes into the crypt to tell the man to flee.

As the hero realizes that something must have gone wrong, he hears a strange buzzing sound growing louder outside. As the sound approaches overhead, his instincts click in: he must shift to another universe to avoid this dreaded sound. If not, he will perish!
